CYCLE LOGIC TEAM CHANGES FOR 2010

February 10th, 2010 Posted in Team Results |

There can be no denying the fantastic results that www.cyclelogic.co.uk has enjoyed over the last 3 seasons gaining top male and female honours in triathlons, time trials, road races, MTB events and placing highly in adventure racing, cyclo cross and BMX events on both a local and National basis.  We are very fortunate as a shop to be supported  by some of the counties top athletes and cyclists and have been proud to have been associated with them and to have been able to support them in what ever way we can.

For 2010 there are some major changes in team www.cyclelogic.co.uk  Matt Pullen, Gary and Chris who pretty much dominated the local  Triathlon and time trial scene recently certainly picked up from where Martin left off in 2007 prior to injury and all four have been excellent ambassadors for CYCLE LOGIC.

Matt has semi retired now from triathlon to concentrate on his Rigging business and possibly running and rowing. Martin is taking some time out from competitive cycling  and  Gary and Chris have both expressed their wishes to, and are obviously capable of, racing at Premier Calendar level which would involve the total support of a full race squad at a National level.  This is obviously beyond our means not least on a sheer logistics point of view, travel accommodation etc. As such they have now found themselves teams that have this capability.  We would like to wish all of them the best of luck for the future and are pleased and proud that we have been in some way involved with their race careers to date, and thank them for the fantastic performances that they have turned in for us over the years.

So, who’s new?

We would like to welcome on board

Neil Eddy, David Bartlett and Lee Bradley.

Neil and David are both Triathletes (and swimmers) of a very high standard and will be very welcome team mates for Anne, Sam, Jason, Geoff and Nathan.   Lee has been involved in both Triathlon and more recently Cyclocross both as a competitor on a Giant TCX and as an organiser being responsible for holding the Southwest cyclo-cross rounds in North Devon and other disciplines such as organising the SWDC 25 TT Champs 2008 s12/25r, for Tamar CC..

We are also seeing some team members cross over from road into MTB XC events with both Stuart and Andy expressing their intentions to get ‘down and dirty’ this season.

So that’s it at the moment -

Welcome to the party.

TANDEM RIDER APPEAL

February 5th, 2010 Posted in Reader's Rides |

We were recently asked if there are any Tandem pilots out there that could help with the following.

Blind tandemist seeks front-riders

I am a keen cyclist recently moved to Cornwall and now live in Gwithian near Hayle.  As a blind person I have ridden tandems for many years both long-distance touring and a little racing.  I am a fit and experienced cyclist.

As a new-comer to the area I am very keen to find enthusiastic front-riders who would be willing to join me on a regular or occasional basis for outings of 1 hour up to a full day.  I have two tandems in pretty good condition and could accommodate people from 5 ft up to about 6 ft 3 in.  I would welcome experienced tandem-riders or experienced solo-riders who fancy trying out tandem-riding for a change.  I am now retired so could manage most days of the week and most times of day.

Please contact me if this sounds of any interest to you so that we can discuss it further.

Super Thermo Long Sleeve Base Layer

Super Thermo Long Sleeve Base Layer Modeled by Famous Scandinavian Fisherman Mr Fet Tish

We discovered these Brynje base layers many years ago when we used to do the Polaris Challenge in it’s original format, before it went all soft and woolly!! Anyway a clothing company in Plymouth used to distribute this bizarre range of Norwegian base layers, naturally we tried them and without doubt they are the best single piece of kit that we have ever worn. Sadly Freestyle the distributor ceased trading however some years later we made contact with Brynje direct and imported them from Norway.

Basically it’s a fine mesh string vest, made out of a modern material. Being mesh it will not hold any moisture but it will trap air giving you a fantastic always dry thermal barrier. They are ‘cut long’ (if that makes sense) and make a fantastic start to any technical layering system.

£39.99 all sizes in stock and useful to double up on those fancy dress ‘fetish’ nights but choose your venues carefully.

CYCLING ACTIVE – Specialized TRICROSS review

November 13th, 2009 Posted in Shop |

Everyone knows that magazine reviews need to be taken with a pinch of salt, especially the UK ones where significant amounts of the magazine’s revenue stems from advertising as opposed to consumer subscription. Everybody likes getting a decent review on the products that they sell, but every now and again something crops up that is just plain contrary to reality and needs to be answered.

Tricross

The Specialized Tricross has been a phenomenon; every body knows about it, has had one, has a friend with one or wants one. We like most other shops struggle to keep them in stock. Why? Because they are such a damn good ‘ALL ROUNDER’. They can do a bit of everything, maybe not individually as well as a more specifically focused cycles like out and out CycleCross bikes, MTB’s or Tourer’s, but as far as being a very competent Jack of all Trades they are incredibly hard to beat. Ok, we are biased, because we sell them, but talking to our customers who have bought literally hundreds of them over the last four years, customers who have lived with them, loved them and come back for more, even if we are wrong about them, our customers are not. Couple this with the sheer number of manufacturers who having recognized the amounts of TRICROSS’s being sold that have hastily brought their own versions into a market that pre-TRICROSS just did not exist. Should tell you something!

So when an apparently well informed publication criticizes the Tricross for having a too long wheel base, slack head angle, long chainstays, a big fork rake, and a too wide a range of gears using a triple chain set, and in the same paragraph questions who Specialized has aimed the bike at, you would think that anyone with a modicum of insight and investigative prowess would spot the rack mounts front and rear, full mudguard clearance and fittings, additional cruising brake levers high front end and worked that one out for themselves.

THE CROSS IN TRICROSS IS FOR CROSSOVER NOT CYCLE CROSS.

For a more balanced review from Bike Magic who seem to ‘GET IT’ check out this relating to the original bike.
http://www.bikemagic.com/news/article/mps/uan/4603

Hopefully most people will recognize that the ‘test’ in question has pitched the bike into a category for which it’s just not intended, although the reviewers actually manage to spot this for themselves in the review’s first sentence, rendering their own question in the last sentence of their review redundant and ridiculous.

We know that the TRICROSS is not ‘perfect’, there are sometimes issues with its brakes causing fork judder, this has been well documented and is not uncommon on any bike with this set up. We have as many customers for whom this has been a problem as we have those who have had no issue with the brakes/forks at all.

As far as the Shimano 2300 shifters are concerned, they work and bring the cost of a TRICROSS down to a level where it is more affordable and acceptable to a wider audience. No bad thing for such a good bike.

From our perspective and many of our customers’ the TRICROSS is a stand out bike, please don’t let this review jade your perspective of it.
